Dentistry Cost
Researching the average dentistry cost is like pulling teeth. Of course, costs vary from place to place. I can understand that, but most queries have just led to ads for dental insurance or a particular practice.
In researching this, I found that if you do not have dental insurance, you need some. Average costs for a family of four can exceed $1,000.00 a year. Sound cheap? Not really, it does not include any work that may need to be done. This is for routine exams and cleaning.
If you need fillings, prices range from $116.00 to $165.00 each. Tooth colored fillings are extra. Basic exams and cleanings run $100.00 for kids and $130.00 for adults. Simple extractions can cost $100.00-$150.00 dollars each and wisdom teeth can be as much as $450.00, not including x-rays and sedation.
Lord help you if your child needs braces. Average cost is around $5,000.00. Ceramic braces and invisalign are more. What can you do to reduce your costs?
Insurance is the obvious choice. Medicaid covers some expenses for low income families. Dental colleges offer services at discounted prices and sometimes free care depending on the circumstance.
Don't get me wrong. Dentists work long and hard to obtain their degrees and setting up a practice is costly. I'm not implying in any way that these charges are out of line, but for the economically challenged patient, it may be out of reach.
Innovations that helps defray the cost of dental services are companies that offer medical loans. Many dental practices offer payment plans for lengthy or very expensive treatments. It can't hurt to ask. Your dentist wants you to have proper treatment, but they have bills to pay too.
In these tough times, we may all need to be a little more creative in searching for affordable care.
